Finissage Living Landscapes

April 16 will mark the end of the wonderful solo exhibition Living Landscapes with Sophie de Vos. With this exhibition, Sophie explored the concept of human nature and the questions surrounding it in a beautiful way. It was great seeing so many visitors, familiar and unfamiliar ones, interact with the artworks and the installation she created for this exhibition.

To celebrate its success, we would like to invite you to a finissage! From 15.00 to 18.00 (April 16) you are welcome to stop by the gallery for great conversations, artworks and drinks.

If you haven’t seen the exhibition yet, this is your chance! We hope to see you soon!

Positively challenged by the architecture of the gallery space, Sophie has developed something special and out of the ordinary. In this exhibition, she brings together photographic imagery and installation, creating an experience that allows spectators to connect with her work in a different way. Dried flowers form a garden in the centre of the gallery space, and are reflected in the photographs on the surrounding frames. These different dimensions create visual as well as conceptual depth. To what extent are we still connected with nature? Do we still have an eye for her beauty in all her stages?

Spectators can really step into a world where beauty and decay are not treated as opposites, but as similar and complementary. The raw beauty of a flower entering the last stage of its life is contrasted with the soft energy of the female body. In the images shapes, structures, and colours suddenly become visible, while attention is also brought to the various textures, colours, veins, birthmarks, and so-called “flaws” that make the flowers and bodies even more alluring in their natural states. Perhaps they are not so different after all.
