Announcement Art on Paper with Saïd Kinos
We are happy to announce that Root Gallery will present new works by Saïd Kinos at Art On Paper from February 6-9, 2025! This edition will markt the 5th anniversary of Art On Paper Amsterdam, with over 40 galleries showing their collections of art on and with paper.
Saïd Kinos is a visual artist that connects his intrigue for visual forms of communication and language. He applies his artistic vision to various art forms among which works on paper!
In the coming year, Saïd will be exploring more personal and intimate themes through language, which continues to serve as a key tool for expressing form and colour undert the working title Between Being and Becoming. While language in his previous work focused on communication with differing interpretations, this new body of work is more inward. The works reflect on his experiences as a father, a partner, an artist, and a human. It marks a shift from broader interpretations to deeply personal narratives, though the themes still have the potential to resonate universally. The title of this new working period reflects his tension between ambition and contentment, a balance between striving for progress and appreciating the present. Additionally, the work touches on how language shapes his thoughts, and how the relentless flow of information mirrors the transient nature of time and existence.
At Art On Paper, Saïd will present works that build upon this concept with a new approach to working on paper; bringing together collagelike techniques and distorted photography into intriguing compositions.

Drawing inspiration from artists like Ed Ruscha and Jenny Holzer, Saïd employs language not only as a visual element but as a means of externalizing an inner landscape. While previous works embraced broader themes, Between Being and Becoming presents deeply personal reflections, aiming to resonate universally despite its specificity. Influenced by movements such as Minimalism and Bauhaus, Saïd’s approach is shaped by contemporary graphic design and typography, using clean and graphic clarity to distill complex emotions.
This work marks a pivotal moment in his practice, balancing the tension between ambition and contentment, and reflecting on the transient nature of time, technology, and the relentless flow of information. Through these pieces, Saïd invites viewers to engage with themes of presence, progress, and the challenge between being and becoming.

In Note to Self, Saïd Kinos takes a more introspective approach. This series is built around personal notes he has written over the past months, fragments of thought, reminders, and observations that serve as a guide in his own life. By translating these notes into works on paper, he bridges the gap between internal reflection and external expression.
Each piece in the series shares the same format, reinforcing a sense of continuity while allowing for variation in texture, colour, and form. Drawings, paintings, watercolours, and collages come together in a modular arrangement that speaks to the fluidity of language and meaning. Note to Self marks the beginning of a new body of work, Between Being and Becoming, where Saïd shifts from broader conceptual themes to a more personal and direct narrative.
Delivery in the Netherlands and Belgium is included.
