In his work, Jan Kuhlemeier tries to grasp the physical geographical qualities of landscapes, natural energies and colours. For the group show Jan made a translation on his earlier Shifting Tides series in which he shows the impressions of water movements that occur when the tide changes. This natural phenomenon is translated into gestures in which paint is continuously applied on the canvas and then scraped off, resulting in a unique visual image. For these new works, he expanded on this research by exploring different layers and tones that result in a higher sense of depth.
