Note To Self - Saïd Kinos
Note to Self – A Modular Installation by Saïd Kinos
Exploring language, reflection, and visual composition
Note to Self is a modular installation by Saïd Kinos, presented at Art On Paper Amsterdam 2025. Comprising 22 framed works on paper, the series brings together handwritten reflections, layered compositions, and Kinos’ distinctive interplay between text and form. Each piece serves as a visual record of thoughts, reminders, and insights—offering a glimpse into an artist’s personal dialogue with language and meaning.
A modular approach to storytelling
The works in Note to Self are arranged in a flexible composition, emphasizing the connection between individual pieces while allowing for dynamic shifts in interpretation. Drawings, paintings, watercolours, and collages come together in a structured yet adaptable display, reflecting the evolving nature of thought and communication.
By using a consistent format across all 22 works (40x30 cm, framed), Kinos creates a sense of rhythm within the installation. Viewers are invited to engage with each piece individually or experience the collection as a whole, much like flipping through pages of a notebook filled with moments of clarity and introspection. The arrangement can be adjusted to suit different spaces, making it a versatile addition to various settings.
Visual rhythm and meaning
While each work stands on its own, the repetition of handwritten notes, painted fragments, and layered compositions creates a continuous dialogue between the pieces. Kinos balances precision in typography with gestural abstraction, reflecting the complexity of thought and expression. The series challenges viewers to consider how words shape perception, memory, and experience, making it a compelling addition to both private and public collections.
