In The Time Traveler, Donald explores the interplay of colour, movement and material in a striking composition of deep blues and burnt oranges. Created with a self-developed technique, the painting reflects a freer, more intuitive approach to image-making, yet it retains the complexity, depth and refinement that characterise his practice. Layers of oil paint have been shaped using custom tools, producing tactile surfaces and subtle transparencies that seem to shift with the light.

This new body of work marks an evolution in Donald’s process: textures are more pronounced, transitions bolder, and the physicality of the paint more present than ever before. The Time Traveler invites the viewer to slow down, to look closely, and to feel the suspended sense of time embedded in the surface.
