Ruimte + Plaats exists in the space between constructed and existing environments, where Jan Theun van Rees’ practice comes together. While his earlier work focused on documenting specific spatial qualities, his more recent approach involves actively shaping and manipulating spaces to visualise their essence. This series is neither a straightforward record of a place nor a fully fabricated scene but instead occupies an in-between state where reality and interpretation merge. It highlights not just the physical aspects of space but also the experience of it, how a place takes form through light, perspective, and our perception of it.
