Threes - Freerk Wilbers
Monumental installation by Freerk Wilbers
About the artwork
The monumental installation Threes begins with a simple rule: divide in threes. Built from repeated circular forms, the work expands downward like an inverted tree structure. Depending on the perspective, it can evoke falling confetti, a floating sea creature, or a suspended architectural system.
Composed of hundreds of reflective aluminium elements, the installation continuously shifts in response to its surroundings. Heat, airflow and the movement of visitors subtly alter the work over time, causing changing reflections and rhythms of light throughout the space. Its glossy colours create a striking contrast against raw industrial architecture, while the scale of the work transforms the experience of the environment itself.
The Vision of Freerk Wilbers
Freerk Wilbers approaches installation as a balance between engineering and unpredictability. His kinetic works emerge through experimental research into movement, mechanics and material behaviour, exploring the point where sculpture, light and spatial perception intersect. Although grounded in technical precision, chance remains an essential part of the process: each installation behaves differently depending on the conditions of the space.
With its architectural scale and constantly changing presence, Threes is particularly suited to public spaces, atriums, hospitality environments and large-scale private projects where movement, light and interaction play a role in the experience of the building.
