Lisette Schumacher - Architectural Colour Symphony
Inspired by the clean lines and timeless design of architectural masterpieces such as Stahl House in Los Angeles; a 1960s home designed by Buck Stahl and Pierre Koenig. Based on her impressions, Lisette Schumacher creates a lively symphony of colours. The rich use of mixed materials among which acrylic paint creates a dynamic interaction with light, causing the works to appear to transform and reveal new depths. The interactive character invites you to explore the endless possibilities of architecture, light and colour. Depending on your position and perspective, the experience of her work differs, allowing for playful interactions and an element of surprise.

From the series Coachella views
Lisette Schumacher brings coral pink and soft lilac together in Coachella Views XIII. Large, fluid forms are interrupted by a finely patterned area that appears to disperse across the right side of the composition. A pale central opening creates depth, as though a distant light or landscape is briefly visible between the surrounding colours.
The work originates in Schumacher’s observations of the Coachella Valley, where intense sunlight, wind and distance continually alter how the landscape is perceived. Here, that experience becomes an atmospheric composition that feels both open and enveloping. The restrained palette makes the work easy to live with, while its subtle visual shifts continue to reward close attention.

From the series Coachella views
In Coachella Views XII, Lisette Schumacher translates the shifting colours of the California desert into an expansive abstract composition. Pale blue, peach and pink move across the surface in broad, sweeping forms, while warmer golden areas appear between the layers. Finer patterns along the right-hand side introduce contrast and draw the eye further into the work.
The painting was inspired by Schumacher’s journey through Palm Springs, Cathedral City and Desert Hot Springs. Rather than depicting the landscape directly, she captures the experience of colour changing across the Coachella Valley: open, bright and never entirely still. Its generous scale gives the work a strong presence while the nuanced palette keeps the composition balanced.

From the series Coachella views
The desert landscapes surrounding Palm Springs are known for their clarity of light and wide horizons. During her visits to the Coachella Valley, Lisette Schumacher experienced how dramatically the atmosphere can shift throughout the day.
Bright sunlight, wind and the vast openness of the desert create a landscape in constant transformation. Colours appear to intensify, fade and re-emerge as the sun moves across the valley.
Schumacher approaches these observations through an intuitive process in which colour and gesture develop gradually across the surface. Soft layers of pink, orange and yellow pigments move across the painting like shifting light fields, occasionally interrupted by reflective passages that recall flashes of sun across the desert terrain.
The composition reflects Lisette Schumacher’s ongoing interest in how landscape, architecture and atmosphere influence the perception of colour. Rather than presenting a fixed view of the desert, the work captures the sensation of light moving through space.

From the series Desert Modernism
Desert Modernism II continues Lisette Schumacher’s exploration of the Coachella Valley, shifting towards a more fluid and atmospheric approach.
Rather than referencing architecture directly, the work unfolds through movement across the surface. Pigment is guided, displaced and allowed to settle, creating soft transitions, layered transparencies and subtle variations in tone.
Warm desert colours - yellow, sand, orange and brown - dissolve into cooler greys and pale pinks. These transitions echo the changing light conditions Schumacher experienced in Palm Springs, where colour is never fixed but continuously shaped by its surroundings.
The painting is built through a direct, physical process without the use of brushes. This results in a surface that remains active: marks soften, edges dissolve and layers become visible depending on light and viewing distance.
Desert Modernism II is less about structure and more about perception. It captures a moment that feels in motion, where colour, surface and light interact over time.
As a large-scale work, it brings a quieter but immersive presence to a space, particularly in interiors where natural light can move across the surface throughout the day.

Saïd Kinos - Abstract Language
Over the years, Saïd Kinos has focused on visual forms of communication, and the distortion and abstraction of typography. Delving into the complexity of language and communication he was able to reveal new layers of perception. His work invites introspection about the infinite ways in which elements of language can be interpreted and reinvented. Language is used as a means to explore form, colour and various artistic methods that he applies to various art forms such as sculptures, installations, paintings, public murals and works on paper. For his presentation, he is conducting research into bronze sculptures in which the fragmented typography typical of his practice is applied in three-dimensional form.

Acrylic, collage, epoxy, artist made frame
Over the past months, Saïd Kinos has been working on The GRIT Paintings, a new series that moves away from the clean, almost clinical aesthetic that defined much of his recent work. Instead, it brings back the raw energy of the street: layered posters, traces of graffiti, and the textures of the city.
For each piece, he collected street posters and billboard material as a base, building on them with hand-painted compositions in acrylics and house paint, detailed with pencil and sealed in epoxy resin. Even the frames are handmade, adding a personal and tactile edge to the works.
This series marks a new chapter in his practice, full of colour, texture, and the kind of imperfection that feels exactly right.

Acrylic, collage, epoxy, artist made frame
Clear Mind by Saïd Kinos is a layered exploration of clarity amidst chaos. Known for his typographic abstractions and graphic sensibility, Kinos blends collage, acrylic paint, and epoxy resin into a cohesive and emotionally resonant composition. At first glance, the work feels intuitive and energetic, but beneath the surface lies a deeply personal narrative.
Part of a new body of work where the artist reflects on themes such as fatherhood, balance, and inner stillness, Clear Mind offers a moment of contemplation. The meticulously poured epoxy gives the surface a glossy, while the layered imagery and text evoke the fleeting nature of thought and presence. Adding another layer of intention, the artist designed and built the frame himself, transforming the piece into a fully immersive object.

Acrylic on linen
Saïd Kinos is fascinated by the ways in which people communicate through language, symbols and changing technologies. The high speed in which information is presented to us, and with it the transience of our modern forms of communication, is a common denominator in all his work. Meanwhile, subjective associations and differing contexts can alter the reception of words and messages. In this, Saïd finds an element of abstraction which he explores through high-contrast, vibrant colour combinations and fragmented typography. Taking visual elements from anywhere he can find and recomposing them in a way to make them his own, Saïd creates his own reconstructed versions of reality through paintings, installations, and large (public) murals.

Acrylic and oil pastel on linen
"The Perpetual Present" by Saïd Kinos is a striking example of the artist's exploration of language and visual communication. This painting embodies Kinos' unique approach to art, where typography and abstraction intertwine to create a complex narrative that is open to interpretation. Using vibrant colors and fragmented forms, Kinos challenges the viewer to find personal meaning in the work, much like one would with abstract art. The text elements, though legible, evoke different associations and emotions depending on the viewer’s individual context, making each encounter with the painting a unique experience.

Quinda Verheul - Material Reflections
By mixing pigments with concrete and integrating them with stones and mirrors, Quinda explores endless possibilities of materials and reflections. Her work requires an exploration of the infinite connections between form, matter and reflection. Inspired by the concept of monism, she believes that everything is one, everything is connected. In her work, each series examines a different fragment of the larger story. Part of this involves exploring different techniques and materials that express the concepts she works with. This creates endless variations with which her use of mirrors is directly related. Quinda Verheul shows the results of new research into landscapes and human interaction in a series of wall sculptures in which she experiments with different (natural) materials.

Rose and ochre concrete on rose mirror
Quinda Verheul immerses herself in the constantly changing landscapes and the influence that humans have on them. She is fascinated by natural forces like wind, water and sunlight, and often addresses grand topics like the exploitation of natural resources which alter the landscape. Yet, there are different aspects to the same topic which Quinda explores in different series. This is reflected in her use of raw, earthy materials such as sand and natural stone. Mirrors form a returning metaphorical element in her sculptures and installations which invite spectators to reflect on themselves while simultaneously exploring different perspectives. The results are unique aesthetic translations which are able to present new confrontational information within a certain comfort.

Sandblasting in rose mirror
“Noctilucent” by Quinda Verheul is a contemporary, minimalistic wall sculpture crafted through sandblasting techniques that modify the surface of a mirror. The sandblasting process disperses minuscule particles, transforming the reflective quality of the mirror into a misty, almost ephemeral surface. This altered state creates an atmosphere of quiet subtlety, inviting viewers to experience a sensory shift in perception.
The piece is inspired by natural phenomena that blend simplicity and splendor, a sunset in a mountainous desert where a lone cloud catches the light, glowing against a vast sky. “Noctilucent” distills this moment, drawing on the idea that through selective framing, even the most transient details of nature can evoke an artful composition. The artwork emphasizes how minimal visual cues can resonate deeply, echoing the interplay between the tangible and the abstract.

Rose mirror and mixed concrete
This piece from Islands In The Sky by Quinda Verheul captures the essence of open landscapes, drawing color inspiration from the ochres and pinks of the Moroccan desert and mountains. The warm, earthy hues echo the vivid tones found in these rugged terrains, where the sun-bleached sands and weathered stones radiate life. Being in these vast, untamed spaces gives my mind room to wander, where thoughts drift like clouds across the horizon. The organic shapes and soft colors reflect moments spent outdoors, where I feel most connected to the earth and my own instincts, exposed yet entirely at peace. These works are a celebration of nature’s grounding warmth and the profound clarity it offers.

Rose mirror and mixed concrete
The Between the Desert and the Ocean series at Root Gallery delves into the balance between two vast, contrasting landscapes, capturing the essence of Morocco's Atlas Mountains. Using concrete mixed with magenta and ochre pigments, each piece is carefully layered on a rose-tinted oval mirror, achieving a tactile, almost geological quality that mirrors the rugged textures of desert and mountain. The mirror introduces an ethereal quality, reminiscent of the ocean’s expanse and its reflective depth. This fusion of raw concrete and delicate mirror creates a harmonious duality - where earthy tones meet fluid, reflective surfaces - inviting viewers to reflect on the connections between land and sea, solidity and fluidity. The Between the Desert and the Ocean series presents a unique, contemplative experience, blending landscape-inspired materials and textures with an elegant, modern twist.

Blue coloured mirror and concrete
From the series Celestial Mountains
Inspired by her journey to Kyrgyzstan, and her experience of the enigmatic landscapes, Quinda Verheul unveils a poetic odyssey through Kok-Ayryk; named after the 3883 metres mountain pass in the Tian Shan mountains. Memories of day and night are combined in pink and blue mirrors, with the concrete lines becoming silhouettes of the mountainous terrain, forming a ballet of reflections that can only be experienced when viewing the work in real life. Concrete edges embody the struggle against the mountain's stoic surface, a testament to the complexities of nature, and the challenging journey in the thin air.
Kok-Ayryk embodies her journey through the mountains; a crisp road tracing a wild river, where clouds converge and drizzle adorns reflections. Landslides and the endless stream of rocks that cover the path form fascinating landscapes, with red and pink stones taking centre stage. As the series unfolds, clouds part, revealing a cerulean sky. The mirrors turn into a mountainous backdrop, capturing the red mountains and glaciers. As the sun sets, the sky darkens, captured in the deep blue of night.

Donald Schenkel - Master of colour gradients
With a career steeped in research into pigments and the mechanics of colour, Donald Schenkel has pushed the boundaries of perception. His paintings reveal the infinite possibilities of colour, with the colour gradients often evoking a feeling of endlessness. Oil paint is not approached as a means to create an image, but rather is based on its materiality. In Donald Schenkel's artistic practice, the work process/method is concentric, with each new work and series referring to previous ones. Oil paint, aluminium and mirrors are recurring materials in Donald's work and are united in a new series of works that will be on display during Enter. These will consist of paintings and wall sculptures. He also experiments with three-dimensional shapes to further emphasise the effect of his colour transitions.

The colour gradients evoke a sense of endlessness which is reflected in cylindrical shapes. Oil paints are not approached as a means to create an image but are rather grounded in their materiality. Researching the behaviour of colours and their material variations, Donald explores how these differences and their interactions expose the different qualities of each colour. This revealing of colours and their qualities is deepened by the three dimensional shape of the works; a multitude of tonalities within the gradient is laid bare, emphasised by the formed shadows of the object.

From the series Coachella views
Coachella Views XIV is one of the most contrasting works in Lisette Schumacher’s series. Warm coral and golden yellow meet cooler blue and lilac, recalling the striking opposition between the sunlit Coachella Valley and the snow-capped San Jacinto Mountains beyond it. Broad areas of colour create movement, while an intricate pattern on the right gives the composition a more concentrated intensity.
Schumacher does not reproduce a particular view. Instead, she brings together impressions of heat, distance, wind and rapidly changing colour. The result is a confident abstract artwork with a strong presence: vivid enough to anchor a space, yet layered enough to reveal quieter transitions on closer inspection.
