LISETTE SCHUMACHER

Architecture, light, and colour in contemporary painting

Lisette Schumacher is a contemporary visual artist whose work is deeply rooted in her fascination with architecture, particularly the clean lines, open structures and material language of mid-century modern design. Based in the Netherlands, she travels extensively to experience iconic architectural sites, most recently focusing her artistic research on buildings in and around Los Angeles. Her primary medium is painting, though her practice also includes sculpture and installation to further explore spatial experience.

More about the artist

At the heart of Lisette’s practice is the belief that architecture first evokes a physical, sensory reaction before it becomes an intellectual experience. She spends significant time on-site, moving through each space repeatedly to absorb its atmosphere. This embodied research is paired with a careful study of the building’s history, function and architect. From this foundation, she develops a distinctive visual language that distils the site’s essence into form, colour and composition.

Her recent works explore how natural light interacts with architectural structures throughout the day. Subtle shifts in colour and transparency create compositions that respond to their environment, making each piece feel dynamic and alive. Her paintings often change visually depending on the time of day and quality of light, offering viewers a new experience with every glance.

While architecture remains a consistent source of inspiration, her more recent series also investigates the emotional and psychological influence of built environments. Her compositions invite the viewer to slow down and reflect on how space, colour and structure shape perception and mood.

Lisette’s work is included in corporate and private collections across Europe, the United States and Asia. Her minimal yet spatially sensitive approach appeals to collectors who value refinement, architectural resonance and the quiet impact of light-driven abstraction.
