Donald Schenkel’s abstract oil paintings are defined by carefully constructed colour gradients , shifting from deep tones to luminous highlights. In these works, colour is both subject and structure: each artwork becomes a study in how colours recede, vibrate or converge.

Using rich pigments and precise transitions, Donald explores how depth, light and distance can be suggested without form. His layered technique highlights the physical qualities of oil paint, its translucency, texture and resistance. Resulting in compositions that feel atmospheric, yet grounded.

These paintings often reveal themselves slowly: vibrant, meditative, and deceptively simple, they create quiet spaces that resonate in both private and architectural settings.
