Transparant #8 is a painting by Karen van de Vliet from a recent phase in the artist’s practice in which layered colour, transparency and material depth play a central role.
Van de Vliet builds her paintings through successive layers of paint that partly reveal and partly conceal what lies beneath. Soft tones of pink, cream and white interact with stronger accents of red, black and green, creating a composition that moves between openness and density.
Traces of the working process remain visible across the surface. Paint is poured, shifted and allowed to settle, forming organic shapes and subtle textures. Rather than presenting a fixed image, the painting unfolds through colour, rhythm and the interaction between layers.
As light moves across the surface, the transparent passages create small shifts in tone and depth. This constant interplay between colour, material and light gives the work a vivid presence that continues to change within its surroundings.
