Transparant #9 is a painting by Karen van de Vliet from a recent phase in the artist’s practice in which colour, transparency and layered material play a central role.
Van de Vliet develops her paintings through successive layers of paint that partly reveal and partly conceal what lies beneath. Soft transitions between pink, yellow, green and blue move across the surface, while traces of the process remain visible. Rather than depicting a fixed image, the composition unfolds through colour, rhythm and movement.
The transparent layers allow light to travel through the surface, creating subtle shifts as the viewer moves around the work. This interplay between colour, material and light gives the painting a lively presence that continues to change within its surroundings.
