In the Spatial Shade series, Lisette Schumacher explores the expressive qualities of solid glass. Each sculpture is composed of handcast glass elements in carefully balanced colours and proportions.

The transparency of the material allows light to pass through the sculpture, creating subtle shifts in colour and depth. Depending on the viewing angle, reflections and internal colour transitions become visible, giving the work a constantly changing appearance.

The combination of clear structure and luminous colour gives these sculptures a strong material presence. The works are compact in scale but visually layered, revealing new details when viewed from different sides.

Schumacher’s glass sculptures emphasise the unique qualities of handcast glass, where colour, light and material come together in a single object.
