Thinking of giving an artwork to someone? Here's how it can work
Thoughtful options for meaningful gifts
Art can be a wonderful gift, thoughtful, lasting, and often more personal than anything else. Whether it’s for a wedding, a farewell at work, a big birthday, Valentine’s Day, a retirement, or to celebrate a new home, a work of art can mark the moment in a unique and lasting way.
Still, we understand the hesitation: how do you give someone a work of art without the pressure of having to choose thepiece?
We hear this often. Sometimes it starts with an upcoming celebration. Or a group of people who want to give something meaningful together. Often, there’s a clear idea: “We’d love to give them a work from Root Gallery.” But what that work should be, is still open.

A gift card that leaves room to choose
We offer a gallery gift card, printed, hand-packed, and valid for any available work. It can also be used online, which makes it easy to browse and choose from home. It's simple and well received, especially if you want to leave room for someone to choose something in their own time. Read more about our gift card here.
We also accept the NGA gift card, which works across more than 50 galleries in the Netherlands. Please note: this card can only be used in person, not online. A good option if you want to support someone’s interest in art, without narrowing it down too much.

A tailored selection within your budget
Another possibility is to let us create a custom selection based not only on your budget, but also on what you know about the recipient(s), their style, taste, or favourite colours. We design a small PDF or printed folder, something tangible you can actually hand over. The recipient then picks their favourite piece from that curated group. We do this in close contact with the giver, and we enjoy making it right.
Just ask in time, it takes a few days to prepare, and printed folders need to be ordered and sent out by post.

A shared gift for a special moment
Sometimes, people come together to give one work as a group. That can make larger pieces or commissions more accessible, and adds to the sense of occasion. We’ve seen this happen at weddings, retirement parties, farewell events, or when someone finishes a big project or moves into a new space.
Choosing something directly
And of course, you can also choose something directly. That’s always a bit more exciting, but it can be the most meaningful of all. We’re happy to talk things through if you’d like a second opinion.
A work of art is something that stays. It becomes part of someone’s home, their rhythm, their everyday life. It can mark a moment, hold a memory, or carry a story you want to pass on. That’s what makes it such a special gift.
If you’re thinking about giving art, for a wedding, a farewell, a birthday, or any other moment worth remembering, feel free to reach out. You can always email us at contact@root.gallery. We’ll think along.
