Freerk Wilbers has been developing a new body of work that explores movement, perception, and light, and Low Moon continues this investigation. The sculpture is part of his ongoing Moon Series, a collection of freestanding glass works that translate optical phenomena into tangible form.
Low Moon is built from two transparent discs printed with fine geometric grids. When viewed from different angles, the patterns overlap to create the moiré effect, a visual interference that produces the illusion of motion. The sculpture itself remains perfectly still, yet the image of the moon seems to shift and breathe as the viewer moves around it.
With Low Moon, Wilbers reveals how stillness and movement can coexist within a single object. The work embodies the precision and quiet wonder that define his practice, offering a refined, collectable artwork that merges material craftsmanship with optical poetry.
