Desert Modernism III expands on Lisette Schumacher’s exploration of Palm Springs and modernist architecture through colour and material. In this larger wall object, flowing layers of orange, peach and golden tones move across the surface, creating a more pronounced sense of rhythm and spatial depth.
Part of the Desert Modernism series, the work is inspired by Schumacher’s visit to Frey House II, designed by Albert Frey. Rather than referencing the architecture directly, she translates its atmosphere into material: light, reflection and layered transparency evoke the shifting conditions of the desert landscape.
The increased scale allows the composition to unfold more gradually, emphasising movement, light behaviour and the relationship between surface and space.
