Legacy - Saïd Kinos

Legacy_v2 is a large-scale, text-based installation by Saïd Kinos that explores what today’s society will leave behind for future generations. Extending across several metres, the word ‘LEGACY’ is transformed into a single sculptural form positioned on the floor. Visitors can move around the work, encountering its scale, material presence and meaning from different positions.

In Legacy_v2, the word itself forms the physical foundation of the work. Its interconnected letters form a single structure positioned on the floor. Language, long central to Saïd Kinos’ practice, is no longer simply read here; it acquires a tangible, spatial presence.

A text-Based installation with video projection

A video projection passes over the letters, literally adding a new and continuously changing layer to the work. The word ‘legacy’ becomes intertwined with the images and events shaping our present. Wars, natural disasters and global crises evoke a reality that increasingly feels dystopian.

Through the work, Kinos asks an urgent question: what are we leaving behind for the generations that follow us? Legacy_v2 does not describe an inheritance that has already been determined, but a history being formed in the present. How will future generations look back on this period – and is this really the story we want to leave behind?

Bringing together sculpture, language and moving image, Legacy_v2 continues Kinos’ investigation into how words shape the way we interpret the world. The installation invites viewers to consider legacy not as an abstract idea or something belonging solely to the past, but as something being created collectively, through the choices and events of the present.
