Rose mirror and mixed concrete
Inspired by travels through Morocco, Islands In The Sky IV by Quinda Verheul reflects the colours and open character of the desert landscape. The rose-coloured mirror recalls warm evening light, while three organic concrete forms refer to weathered stones, distant mountains and islands of colour appearing across the horizon.
Dusty pink, sand and ochre give the concrete a soft, earthy quality. Their irregular surfaces contrast with the smooth mirror, which draws the changing light and surrounding space into the work. As the reflection shifts, the wall sculpture continually moves between a remembered landscape and the present interior. With its narrow format and warm palette, Islands In The Sky IV brings the atmosphere of the Moroccan desert into a space without becoming literal.

Gold coloured mirror and concrete
Never Lost I is part of Quinda Verheul’s newest sculptural series, exploring the fragility and interconnectedness of nature. This monumental wall piece (180 x 140 cm) is made from a gold-coloured mirror and sculpted concrete, forming a layered visual field that reflects both the viewer and their environment.
Inspired by the writings and philosophy of 19th-century polymath Alexander von Humboldt, Quinda Verheul reimagines his vision of the world as a unified, living whole, a system where climate, land, cosmos and human presence are intrinsically linked. Through her material choices and reflective surfaces, she invites us to consider how shifting landscapes mirror internal transformations, and how we, like Humboldt, might learn to see connection in fragmentation.
