In Stellar Magnitude 2, Francisca Snel places fine silver wire within a tall, oval form of hand-blown glass. Blue and green layers fold around flashes of red and magenta; the silver catches the light in slender, shifting lines. The work brings together two kinds of brightness: the colour held within the glass and the reflective traces of a metal associated with electrical conduction. Part of Snel’s exploration of light pollution, the sculpture asks how artificial light alters what remains visible in the night sky.
