New season, fresh Inspiration: 10 Contemporary artworks under €1.500
Kick off autumn with a curated selection of contemporary art
As the new art season begins, a fresh wave of creativity is sweeping through the gallery. After a summer of recharging, we’re excited to open our doors with new works and renewed energy. At Root Gallery, each season brings new discoveries, from recently created pieces to emerging artists joining our roster. Following the enthusiasm for our previous curated collections, we felt it only natural to continue the tradition. Autumn is a time of change and inspiration, making it the perfect moment to highlight a new selection of artworks that capture the spirit of the season.
Why under €1.500?
The €1.500 threshold offers a meaningful way to collect original contemporary art, whether painting, sculpture, or photography. It allows new collectors to begin with works of lasting value, while giving seasoned buyers the chance to add distinctive pieces that enrich their collections. By focusing on this price range, Root Gallery underlines its belief that art collecting should remain accessible without losing sight of quality, while supporting emerging and mid-career artists shaping today’s cultural landscape.
A curated seasonal selection
For this edition, we have handpicked works by Vera Klaus, Lisette Schumacher, Jeske Haak, Jan Theun van Rees, and Sophie de Vos. All artists we show at major art fairs this season. Together they represent a cross-section of the gallery’s programme - spanning painting, sculpture and photography - and capture the spirit of the new season: renewal, creativity, and reflection.
The selection updates automatically, so you only see what is truly available at this moment.
Why the new season calls for new art
Fresh energy in your space: With cooler days and more time spent indoors, adding a new artwork can instantly refresh your home or office. A painting, photograph, or sculpture can bring warmth and texture to your surroundings.
New arrivals from artists: The start of the season often means unveiling new works. Our artists – both familiar and newly represented – have been busy creating. Now is the ideal time to discover their latest pieces and see how their visions continue to evolve.
A moment for change: Just as you might update your wardrobe or rearrange your home, starting or expanding an art collection can mark a fresh chapter. Embracing a new piece now keeps your space dynamic and personal.

Lisette Schumacher
Lisette's practice draws from her fascination with architecture, light, and modernist heritage. Working with layers of acrylic on plexiglass, her pieces often refer to specific places and the atmospheres they hold.
By Lisette Schumacher
30 × 25 × 4 cm, 2024
Mixed media
From the series View On Sunset
The View on Sunset series reflects Lisette Schumacher’s deep connection with mid-century modern architecture and the captivating sunsets of Los Angeles. Lisette’s interest lies in the idea that architecture engenders a basic physical experience prior to also initiating an intellectual interpretation. By observing the location intensely and moving through each room repeatedly, she can both experience the space in a physical way and interpret it intellectually. After studying the site's history and architect, a period of in-depth research into technique, material and colour schemes follows. This results in a series of works that reflect on the site's atmosphere, history and its design.
This work will be shipped within the Netherlands and Belgium at no additional cost, securely and with tracking.

A brief pause. A moment to breathe. Moment der Ruhe 2 is one of Vera Klaus’s more introspective works, an abstract composition that still carries her familiar sense of movement and emotion, but with more space to linger.
Soft pink gestures, deep purples and bright flashes of orange and green unfold across the canvas without urgency. It’s a piece that invites slowness. The title refers to the feeling of calm that sometimes arrives when everything stands still, even if only for a second.
Like most of Vera’s paintings, this work is created layer by layer, guided by intuition and sound. Each element - a drip, a sharp line, a blurred stain - carries its own weight and energy. But here, they’re given room to rest.

Jeske Haak
Donald is known for his carefully built-up abstract works that balance depth, contrast, and light. His paintings often seem minimal at first glance but reveal complexity on closer inspection.
By Jeske Haak
20 × 8 × 8 cm, 2024
Polished bronze, green marble
Edition 10
This sculpture is part of a series exploring transformation, featuring three works: Diving Flower, Walking Flower, and Flying Flower. Each piece captures a different stage in the metamorphosis of a creature that gradually evolves, its form becoming so exquisitely delicate that it resembles a flower. Moving through water, across land, and into the air, this being embodies the fluidity of change, symbolizing the beauty of evolution. For Jeske Haak, this series serves as a study of form, providing the foundation for the larger sculptures she creates. Through these works, she reveals how breathtaking the shapes in nature can be if only we take the time to truly see them.
Each piece is made to order, with a lead time of approximately three to six months. Delivery within the Netherlands and Belgium is complimentary and arranged with care, either in person or securely shipped. We’re happy to advise on placement and presentation.

Sophie de Vos
Sophie’s work often focuses on the human body, time, and vulnerability. Her photographic practice is deeply material, with image that invites closer inspection.
By Sophie de Vos
40 x 30 cm, ed. 2/5, 2024
Hahnemuhle, framed in black, museumglass
From the series Fragments of Clarity
The word ‘reflecting’ carries dual meanings; it can refer to an actual reflection — seeing an image mirrored in a glossy surface like glass — or it can describe the process of deep, thoughtful contemplation.
This photographic series by Sophie de Vos intertwines both interpretations, exploring the intersection between the literal and metaphorical aspects of reflection. In this series, Sophie incorporates glass as a physical and conceptual layer over her subjects, manipulating its positioning to create dynamic visual distortions. By alternating and playing with these layers, she raises profound questions about perception: When we look at something, are we truly seeing it as it is, or are we viewing it through the complex prism of our own experiences, biases, and emotions? Sophie challenges the viewer to consider the nature of clarity itself, suggesting that true understanding may be filtered and refracted by the lenses through which we observe the world.
Through this blending of visual and philosophical reflection, the series becomes not just a study of surfaces and subjects, but a deeper inquiry into the limits of perception and understanding.

Proline Vibrant Satin 290 gr on 2 mm Dibond
Edition 2/6, with walnut frame
In essence, Sophie de Vos’ work revolves around the concept of human nature and the questions surrounding it. Subjects like transience, decay, loss and the passing of time play an important role in her practice. For human beings, these subjects are often emotionally charged, while in nature they are most common. Sophie shows and questions this contrast by creating photographic series in which the human body is accompanied by natural materials. Her works tell stories through image and language by means of her attributed titles. Meanwhile, the carefully determined composition, colours and details form wonderful images. Her work is often sold in very limited editions, giving it more room to be admired while protecting its exclusivity.

Jan Theun van Rees
Jan Theun van Rees is an artist working in photography. His practice explores how space is perceived, constructed, and transformed through light and image. With a background in architectural photography, he gradually moved away from documentation and into a more personal and intuitive exploration of spatial experience.

Pigment ink on Innova Photorag bright white, mounted on 4 mm museum board
Framed in ‘White Wash’ veneer with spacers and UV70 museum glass
(Also available in 25 x 20 cm, edition 10)
This work is part of the series Painted Room
With Red Room, Jan Theun van Rees continues his exploration of how space is perceived and constructed on the flat picture plane. The work is part of the Painted Room series, in which he intuitively builds and photographs entirely constructed environments.
Red Room exists solely to be photographed, a new, not-yet-existing reality created to express a particular spatial quality. The deep red appears to fill the room like a tangible presence, shaped by light and composition.
As in much of his recent work, Van Rees blurs the line between documentation and invention. Red Room invites the viewer to question what space is, how it comes into being, and the role perception plays in its formation.
