In Full Colour

18 July - 5 September 2026

This summer, Root Gallery presents In Full Colour, a group exhibition featuring new works by Karen van de Vliet and Vera Klaus, alongside an Invitation presentation by sculptor Sina Steiner.

Bringing together painting and sculpture, the exhibition explores colour as a source of energy, optimism and play. Although each artist has a distinct visual language, they share an intuitive way of working. Rather than following a predetermined plan, their works emerge through experimentation, material and instinct.

Vera Klaus

For Vera Klaus, painting begins with movement. Guided by music and intuition, she creates vibrant abstract compositions that translate moments of happiness into colour and form. Everyday experiences - the warmth of sunlight, a field in bloom, or the memory of a meaningful encounter - become the starting point for expressive paintings that celebrate being present.

Karen van de Vliet approaches painting as both image and object. Working intuitively, she builds her compositions through layers of paint, allowing colour, texture and material to guide the process. Her recent works push this exploration further, introducing thicker applications of paint alongside translucent materials that create a shifting dialogue between opacity and transparency. Balancing deliberate gestures with chance, her paintings reveal a tactile landscape in which colour seems to float, settle and transform.

As the Invitation artist, Sina Steiner presents a series of one-of-a-kind sculptural objects made from unfired clay. Working directly with the material, without sketches or fixed plans, she allows each form to develop intuitively. Colour plays a central role in her practice, from rich, saturated hues to her signature blue. Every sculpture captures a fleeting movement or emotion, while shifting light and shadow continuously reveal new perspectives.

Together, their works create an exhibition that is playful, intuitive and full of colour, inviting visitors to slow down and enjoy the energy each artist brings to the space.
